Connecticut Life Jacket Requirements

Every vessel underway on Connecticut waters must have a life jacket for each person in the vessel. The PFD must work at all times when the boat is underway. It should also fit properly, and be in good condition.

All vessels no matter the size should carry USCG-approved PFD’s, enough for every occupant.

Compulsory PFD Requirements for Connecticut

All children of 12 years and under must always be in a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket. The personal flotation device must be in good condition and fit properly.

Exceptions from wearing PFDs in Connecticut

Boaters can go without a life jacket below deck or when in an enclosed cabin.
