Compulsory PFD Requirements for Virginia
In Support of Coast Guard Efforts in improving boating safety, all children under 13 years must wear a Coast- Guard approved life jacket when aboard all recreational vessels that are underway. All PFDs must fit properly and be in good wearing condition.
Exceptions when a Life Jacket does not need to be worn
It is not compulsory for a child riding below deck or in an enclosed cabin to wear a life jacket.
